SOLUTION 1 - Verify if minimum system requirement is met. SanDisk card readers support Windows Vista, Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2000 SP4, Windows 7.NOTE: No additional drivers need to be downloaded for the card readers as they are native to the above mentioned supported operating systems. For Mac users, see Troubleshooting USB device on MacSOLUTION 2 - Verify the reader's status under Device Manager.STEP 1 - Connect the reader to the PCNOTE: It is recommended that you plug your card reader to the back USB port on your PC to ensure that there is enough power from the USB port for the card reader to be detected properly.STEP 2 - Check under Device Manager1. Right-click My Computer.2. Select Manage.3. On the left pane, click Device Manager.NOTE: The card reader will appear in two places: Disk Drives and Universal Serial Bus controls as USB Mass Storage. If there is a yellow exclamation point (!) or question mark (?) next to the device, try to refresh the drivers.STEP 3 - Refresh the drivers1. Right-click the entry with the error mark, select Uninstall.2. On the top menu, click Action, and then click Scan for hardware changes.STEP 4 - Verify if the reader is detected1. Double-click My Computer.2. Look for the card reader under Devices with removable storage.SOLUTION 3 - Try other USB ports.A yellow exclamation point (!) under Device Manager usually means that the device is not receiving enough power. If the reader is not receiving ample amount of power from the USB port, it may not function properly.SOLUTION 4 - Change the drive lettersNOTE: The SDDR-89, SDDR-189, SDDR-289 reader should show 4 drive letters under My Computer.

  • Sorry you are having problems with this board. To answer a few of your questions.Space, there just wasn't space, the USB circuitry on the board takes up a bit leaving us with something that had to go.

  • We made the Pro Micro compatible with the Arduino Leonardo, that decision was made there. Keep in mind you should be able to use any pin as a SS since each device on the SPI bus needs a different SS pin.

  • Most libraries or code actually have you assign the SS pin, it might be buried in the library. Keep in mind not all libraries work with the Leonardo/ATMega32U4 boards. If you are still having problems try emailing techsupport@sparkfun.com and they should get back to you (both forums and comments are designed as user support and only loosely monitored by staff)

Hi, keep in mind these boards are very different than the Uno and so the upload process is different. You do need to make sure you have the correct board files downloaded and installed as well as the correct drivers installed (on Windows). If you still have questions feel free to email techsupport@sparkfun.com. Also, as for the pin names, the full name is actual D0, D1, etc. as opposed to the analog pins which are A0, A1, etc. But on the Pro Micro they are shortened for space issues.

  • For anyone working with windows 8/8.1 here is how I got it to work:Enable installation of unsigned drivers: 8.1 or 8

  • Once signing is disabled uninstall and re-install the arduino IDE (version 1.0.5)

  • Open device manager

  • Get the windows drivers from the tutorial

  • Reset the board twice quick succession as described under Reset Bootloader

  • Notice the windows sound signalling a new device being recognized. The new device should show up in device manager with the orange triangle as the pro micro.

  • Install the driver as described in the tutorial for windows installation for this new device that showed up. I had to reset the board a couple of times during navigation to the driver and then just as I was clicking the button to install the driver. It finished before I heard the sound signalling removal of a device.

  • Upload sketches to the regular com port that is under device manager, and during upload the pro micro will show up briefly in device manager with the driver you just installed, and disappear, and the sketch should work.
